Forever Resorts Offers “Floatels” at Reduced Rate for HBC-4 Participants

Forever Resorts, one of the country’s largest recreational concessioners, is pleased to offer HBC-4 Anglers and VTOs a special discounted rate for their popular “Floatels” for the March 13, 2009 contest.

"A Floatel is a full-size houseboat that remains docked in the marina," notes Jim Smith of Forever Resorts. "Anglers can tie their bass boats up to their Floatel and enjoy all the comforts of a modern houseboat without ever having to leave Don Pedro Marina. Our houseboats have four bedrooms, a full-service kitchen with all necessary cooking appliances and utensils. With lodging accommodations somewhat scarce in the Lake Don Pedro area, a Floatel is the way to go," Smith adds.

Forever Resorts is offering their Floatels to HBC participants at a reduced rate of $250 per night, a savings of $150 per night. Split four ways, this comes to approximately $65 a night.

“This is a sweet deal for Anglers and VTOs,” notes HBC co-founder Ron Cervenka. “If four guys split the cost of a Floatel, it’s cheaper than a motel room and you’re right there. You won’t have to hassle with launching your boat on tournament morning,” adds Cervenka.

HBC-4 Anglers and VTOs interested in reserving a Floatel can do so by calling 209-852-2369 and asking for Joyce at boat rentals. Be sure to tell Joyce that you are with the HBC tournament to get the discounted rate.

HBC-4 Fields Fill in Record Time

As anticipated, entries for HBC-4 came flooding in the moment that on-line registrations opened up on Monday morning, January 19th at 8 AM. By 8 PM that same evening, the 50 VTO field had filled, with the 50 Angler field filling the following evening at 8 PM.

“We pretty much knew that HBC-4 would fill quickly, but we had no idea that the VTO field would fill first,” notes HBC co-founder and director Ron Cervenka. “The VTO response was overwhelming, which is very exciting to see. I mean, what better way to learn some of the secrets of the best trophy bass anglers in the country than spending a day on the water with them? These (VTOs) are in for a real treat,” Cervenka adds.

Entries into HBC-4 were only accepted on-line through the HBC website. “Taking entries on-line is the only way to get an exact date and time stamp on when the entry was submitted, and I mean right down to the second. Scott Harvey, my statistician and IT guy, developed the HBC’s on-line registration program and it worked flawless. We had some entries come in within seconds of one another and even though we did not have to use the time stamp for the 50th spot for either field, we could have if we needed to,” says Cervenka.

HBC-4 will take place on Friday, March 13, 2009 at Lake Don Pedro in the heart of California’s Mother Lode Country. It will once again feature its popular and original One-fish, Big-fish, Winner-takes-all format, with the angler catching the largest bass receiving $10,000. The HBC-4 champion will also receive a custom, hand-crafted champion belt valued at over $1,000.

Waiting list entries are still being accepted for both Anglers and VTOs. Although we cannot guarantee that those on the respective waiting lists will get in, there are usually a few Angler and VTO cancellations prior to the event. Those interested in being placed on the waiting list can do so by clicking on the “HBC-4 Sign-up” button on the HBC website and filling out the appropriate entry form.

Southern California Transplant Now a Dominant Figure at Lake Don Pedro
Back in the early 1980’s, Southern California’s Castaic Lake was known as the premiere trophy bass lake in the world. It seemed as though 16 and 17 pound bass were being caught almost weekly, with an occasional 21 pounder thrown in for good measure. Castaic Lake was drawing world renowned trophy bass hunters from around the globe in quest of catching a new world record largemouth bass. Even Roland Martin and Bill Dance made appearances. And while most of the attention was given to these big named trophy bass guys, there were a handful of local bass anglers who were on that same quest, yet you never heard a word about them, nor did you even know their names.
