HBC-6 Angler & VTO Spots Still Available

With a little more than a month to go, there are still a limited number of Angler and VTO spots remaining for HBC-6, to be held at Diamond Valley Lake on Friday, March 19, 2010.

“The HBC is not just another tournament trail; it is a trophy bass trail,” says HBC co-founder Ken Huddleston. “HBC Anglers are a different breed entirely. These guys eat, sleep, and breathe trophy bass, and quite a few of them have fished all of or nearly all of our events so far. These are the guys who we created the HBC for and who represent what the HBC is all about,” adds Huddleston.

As a side note, there is an ABA team tournament and a National Bass West team tournament scheduled at DVL on the Saturday and Sunday immediately following HBC-6 respectively. What better way to (visually) pre-fish for either or both of these team events than by being a VTO at HBC-6. Rest assured that none of the HBC-6 Anglers will be holding back on fishing their best water during HBC-6.

HBC Mourns the Loss of "Orso Dave" Roberson

The entire trophy bass fishing community is mourning the loss of HBC Angler Dave Roberson, who died suddenly of an apparent heart attack at his Texas home late Sunday evening, December 27th. Roberson, designer of the extremely popular Orso swimbaits and owner of Orso Swimbait Company, was only 34 years old.

"We are absolutely devastated by Dave’s sudden passing," said HBC director Ron Cervenka upon learning of Roberson's death. "He was one of those guys that you always loved being around. He was always cheerful and very funny, as evidenced by his crazy hat-cam videos. Dave was an accomplished trophy bass angler and a die-hard big bait specialist. He finished ninth at HBC-1 at Lake Casitas and eighth at HBC-2 at Clear Lake. It will be difficult for me to throw a swimbait from now on without thinking of Dave Roberson and his passion for the sport. He will truly be missed," added Cervenka.

Roberson was an officer in the U.S. Air Force and an Iraq War veteran. He moved to Texas from Southern California in 2008.

Musgrove Wins HBC-5 VTO Video Award

It would be a lie to say that Matt Musgrove of Pleasanton, California didn’t have a slight edge to win the HBC-5 VTO Video Award; what, with his now famous “Kent Brown Splash Down” video blessing the pages of YouTube. (This hilarious video can be found on the home page of the HBC website at www.HeavyweightBassClassic.com ). But the truth of the matter is that Musgrove actually submitted more video footage than any other VTO entered in HBC-5, which was held at the California Delta on August 14, 2009.

For being the HBC-5 VTO Video Award winner, Musgrove will receive a brand new Ardent XS1000 fishing reel valued at $270, courtesy of Ardent Outdoors, the official reel sponsor of the HBC.

Worthy of mention for also submitting some excellent footage shot during HBC-5 are Franklin Velarde of Middleton, CA, Lloyd Carter of Dixon, CA, and Keith Rini of Newbury Park, CA.

At each HBC event, VTOs are asked to video their respective Angler in action. The videos are then reviewed by Shea McIntee and his crew at Endless Fun Productions, the official video production company of the HBC. The winner is selected based on the quantity and the quality of the videos submitted, with the winner receiving a special prize. VTOs will once again be asked to do the same at HBC-6 scheduled for Friday, March 19, 2010 at Diamond Valley Lake in Riverside County, CA.

Each of the 50 VTOs at HBC-4 were asked to film their respective anglers in action, which Joe did. However; Joe went the extra mile and compiled a detailed report of his day on the water with Robert Mansor. Here is Joe’s report.
